Rhodes, Greece
It's November, and we are rapidly becoming a tourist island without tourists. The street
crowds are sparsifying, more and more shops are closing for the season. The restaurants on my square
were open today, but visitors were few and far between.
This bright table top in Italian style belongs to one of the eateries still operating on
the main drag.
Tonight's pictures are all from weeks ago in October. Warmer temps than today, and more people.
A colonnade from the Italian occupation of Rhodes in the early 20th century.
I think this was a drawbridge in crusader times. Part of the chain of bridges and walkways known
collectively as the San Francisco Gate.
Down ByThe Water
The front of the Old City, facing the main tourist harbor.
A floating souvenir shop - one of three on the main harbor.
A local yacht, and some mountains in Turkey.
Scenes in the Old City
Mere weeks later, this street of tourist businesses is all but empty tonight.
The small B&B on this residential back street is also folding up the tent for the Winter.
The actual residents on the street will still be here.
Leaving town? Here is what it costs if you don't or can't use the busses. All prices in Euros.
(For reference, the bus fare to the airport is 2.50 from the machine, or 3.50 from the driver.)
The mystical vanishing inter-dimensional tower. Difficult to study, because it can only be seen by
people who aren't paying attention to it.
That is it for tonight.
Happy November to everybody!
