April & May 2025

Bratislava, Slovakia does have a nice enough airport.
I first arrived here through it in 2009.
That said, BTS is poorly connected to places I fly to and from.
If I am coming or going by air, I use Vienna Airport, an easy bus ride away.
(Fun fact: Vienna and Bratislava are the two closest European capitals.)

My direct flight from Rhodes landed just before sunset. I reached the Slovakian capital just after dark, and settled in quickly to my usual apartment.

Vienna Airport
Having left behind a Finnish friend in Rhodes, I was amused that a Finnair plane was my first sight at Vienna.

Some names carry a magic for me, above and beyond the actual thing they attach to.
One of those names is Danube, so I'll throw it in when I can. There it is by this grassy embankment!

The Sun is a welcome treat when it comes, even if the air is still too cold for my California-bred taste.

If you have followed these pages for a time, you remember my cute slug neighbors. It warms my heart just a bit each year to see that they are still here.

This graffitti art must be by young folks. I know all of the individual words, and I can't make head nor tail of what it is saying. Language evolution in action. If anybody reads this whose Slovak is better than mine (a low bar), feel free to let me know what is going on here.

Mixed reflections at a mall by the Danube. Part of the Apollo Bridge is recognizeable.

Potten & Pannen?!?
If they say so...

Hm... does this mean the I's have it?

Many Habsburg-era streets are painted in the pastel shades so characteristic of that time. None more so than this short leafy street adjacent to the Medical Garden.
